Ko Phi Phi Island
Thailand’s best island. Plenty of things to do and see, with nearby destinations such as Krabi and Phuket.
The Phi Phi island off Thailand’s Andaman Coast (The Andaman Islands were hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which killed more than 2,000 people) is a six-island archipelago, with Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh serving as the main islands. These picture-perfect islands are either a 45-minute speedboat ride or a 90-minute ferry journey from either Phuket or Krabi, making them ideal tropical retreats in Southeast Asia.
Pristine beaches, beautiful rock formations, and vibrant turquoise waters teaming with colourful marine life may all be found on Phi Phi. Hundreds of tourists visit the bigger and inhabited Phi Phi Don, while the smaller and deserted Phi Phi Leh features gorgeous bays and beaches, including Maya Bay, which was made famous by “The Beach” movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Don’t let you into think that Phi Phi Don is an island similar to Phuket – It’s not. 90% of the island is rugged mountainous jungle.
There are no roads linking the beaches. Beach hopping can only be done by water taxi.
